Ferrosilicon is made from coke, steel scraps and quartz (or silica) and is smelted in an electric arc furnace. Ferrosilicon is widely used as a deoxidizer in the steelmaking process. At the same time, because the heat released when SiO2 is formed is relatively large, it is also beneficial to increase the temperature of the molten steel during deoxidation.
